Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, as per VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the US.
• Residency Training: Completion of an accredited residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Residents enrolled in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred Experience: Board certification and subspecialty experience such as Body Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, or Interventional Radiology are preferred but not required.
• Procedures performed include thoracentesis, paracentesis, arthrocentesis, joint injection, lumbar puncture, biopsies, and line placements.
• Physical and environmental requirements include moderate lifting, use of fingers, good vision, hearing ability, and stability.

Duties

• Interpret and protocol general radiology, CT, MRI, US, Fluoroscopy, and Bone Densitometry examinations.
• Review imaging requests and order appropriate exams and tests.
• Provide expert opinions and maintain high accuracy and efficiency.
• Participate in quality control, peer review, and administrative duties.
• Maintain BLS certification.
• Subspecialty experience in Body Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, or Interventional Radiology is preferred.
• Perform interventional procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, biopsies, and line placements.
• Participate in the VA's total rewards program, including education debt reduction, competitive salary, paid time off, retirement benefits, insurance, licensure, CME reimbursement, and malpractice coverage.
• Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with rotating call approximately once every eight weeks.
