Job Description
De La Rosa Law is currently seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our team in our Miami office. This position involves working closely with attorneys to assist in the preparation for hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in immigration law.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist immigration attorneys in all phases of discovery and preparation for immigration hearings and trials.
- Prepare and file immigration forms and petitions, including I-130, I-485, I-765, I-601, N-400, and other family-based, employment-based, and humanitarian applications.
- Draft legal documents such as affidavits of support, declarations, motions, briefs, and responses to Requests for Evidence (RFEs).
- Coordinate and prepare filings for asylum applications, deportation defense cases, adjustment of status, and naturalization applications.
- Organize and manage case files, maintaining both paper and electronic filing systems in compliance with legal and firm standards.
- Conduct legal research on immigration laws, regulations, and procedures to support case strategy and preparation.
- Meet with clients to gather and review documents, discuss case status, and explain legal processes.
- Prepare and organize exhibits for court hearings, including evidence of relationships, financial documents, and country condition reports.
- Assist in preparing clients for interviews with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and attend interviews when necessary.
- File pleadings and other legal documents with immigration courts and agencies such as USCIS, the Department of Labor, and the Department of State.
- Monitor and manage immigration deadlines, case status updates, and correspondence with clients and government agencies.
Skills & Competencies:
- Bilingual Communication: Fluency in both English and Spanish is required (written and verbal). Must be able to communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and government officials in both languages.
- Technical Proficiency: Exceptional technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, immigration case management software (e.g., INSZoom, Docketwise), and legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
- Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple cases, prioritize tasks, and maintain detailed, organized files both electronically and in paper form.
- Client Service: Excellent client service skills with the ability to provide compassionate and understanding support to clients, many of whom may be facing stressful and complex immigration issues.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex immigration issues, identify strengths and weaknesses in case strategy, and develop effective legal solutions.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in preparing and reviewing legal documents, ensuring compliance with all immigration regulations and deadlines.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, clients, and other legal staff, as well as interact effectively with government agencies and officials.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to work 40 hours per week (9 am - 5 pm) with flexibility for overtime as required, and the ability to adapt to changing case priorities and deadlines.
Qualifications & Prior Experience:
- Bachelors Degree required
- Certified Paralegal (CP) designation is preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in immigration law. Prior experience in a law firm and litigation setting is preferred.
- Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, subpoenas, and closing statements.
- Prepare for trial by performing tasks such as organizing exhibits.
